Q: How did you get started playing football?

 It all started with me playing “kill the man with the ball” when I was younger. Then a friend and I washed cars for half a summer to come up with half funds to play pop warner.

Q: What separates you from all the other athletes trying to become a professional?

My drive and persistence. I know why and whom I am doing it for. The circumstances I have come through to be at this point of consideration in football only indicate that there is growing purpose (as a professional or not) for me in the pursuit of a professional football career. At present, it is that that continues to give me reason to not to let up.

Q: Tell us about your college choice, career and what the recruiting process was like.

 I had my daughter my senior year of high school so college wasn’t the first priority. Because her mother has been such a rock for me, I was able to do community college and then go to junior college in California. I played two years for the Riverside Tigers. The junior college route – coming from another state, living on my own and working – was tough but I made it through. Funny story, the same coach that was recruiting me in high school (I turned down the offer due to my daughter) found me again and was the head coach at Limestone so it worked out perfectly, in God’s speed.

Q: What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your sports career so far?

Getting a scholarship to play football and have my education paid for has been my biggest accomplishment so far.

Q: What do you consider to be one of the more important things you learned from the coaching staff?

To function as a successful team, everyone has to do their job with 110 percent of the required effort and “do right” in everyday life, which will forever be stuck in my head.

Q: What is/was your biggest challenge and how do/did you manage it?

Being away from my daughter for these past years seeing her only on holidays and breaks. The first time seeing her walk was over FaceTime it was memorable but It definitely made me question my progress in life. However, I have resolved in my mind that obtaining my degree will serve as a lasting benefit to not only her but also to my nieces and nephews, as I will be the first in my family to graduate from college.

Q: What is your biggest strength or X factor that you bring to a professional team?

Versatility has always been my strong suit. I am a big guy but I can play the small guy positions. I am coachable.  Respect has been something I grew up on so that has never been an issue for me. Leading by example would be another X factor about myself.

Q: Who is or has been the most influential person in your life?

My mother would win this just because how strong she was.  She taught me how to pray and have faith at a very early age. Also, it would be Muhammad Ali. He has always been my guy since 1st grade, mostly because he was really good at his craft. But it wasn’t until high school that I found out why I was drawn to like him. It was there that I did a paper on Ali and really realized how great he was. How he carried himself and stood up for what was right and his interviews blew me away.

Q: What are your goals with football? If football does not work out, then what?

My goal is to see that my hard work has paid off by being identified as one that can play football at the highest levels and selected by a professional football organization that feels I can add-value to their team. I am going to have a Degree in business Management so if things do not go as plan I will use it and still be involved with sports through health and wellness.

Q: How did you prepare for the National Scouting Combine and what are your expectations?

Lots of stretching yoga, working out gym and the field working on my weakness. I will have a good two days this is where preparation meets opportunity.

Q: What would be your ultimate achievement?

Giving back to communities not just money but wisdom. I want my success to be a platform for speaking to kids that are in similar situations as was I. I want to be a source of clarity in life for them. Sometimes that all you need is someone you can relate to telling you that they understand what you are going through, it goes a long way. As a part of football at Limestone as was a part of a mentoring program. During my senior season, I was given an award as a mentor at the children’s home here in Gaffney South Carolina. Being nominated by the kids and awarded by the children’s home brought me an enormous amount of joy.

Q: If you have to compare yourself to a current pro player, who would it be and why?

Ray-Ray Armstrong and Kam Chancellor they both are safeties that can come down in the box or blitz off the edge. Those are things I can do, so I have always watched their game. Especially Ray he is from the same hometown Sanford, Florida as me. I have watched him growing up from high school to college and now with the Giants.

Pursuing a career in professional football from a small school is a lonely path. A prospect may have the support of his peers, family, and teammates, but the process can be overwhelming and very confusing. Often times small school prospects don’t have access to the resources provided to prospects at football powerhouses. “How can I get myself in front of scouts? How can I prove to them that I can play at the next level?” These are only a few of the many questions that race through a potential prospects mind on a daily basis. The Beyond Sports Network National Combine helped simplify this process for many of the players that attended, including myself. Despite the combine being held for a few days, the information and services provided by the combine, as well as the sense of community between the staff members and prospects stood out to me. Every test that would be performed at the NFL combine was covered, every coach and staff member supported each prospect to an unbelievable extent, and the amount of scouts and agents in attendance and how interactive they were was impressive. The Beyond Sports Network National Scouting Combine was a critical step in attempting to take my talents to the next level. If you are a small school prospect with no clear path to the next level, the National Scouting Combine will certainly clear up the path for you.

BSN gave me the platform I needed to be respected as a athlete. I came to there first Combine in 2010. I was pulled by every NFL, CFL scout. At that time there were a couple really good WRs including a SEC top WR who NFL scouts were coming to see. Once I put up good #s in my Testing Drills, we did one on ones. I showed my great covering skills to the point all the scouts herd the WRs talking and asking who was this guy. Then BSN promoted me and my numbers and I received workouts on all levels. I became a name in the business. Having legit numbers and respectable organization backing you is what you need. Everyone can say they can play and perform but coaches and scouts don’t believe you. BSN gives you the stage to perform and prove them wrong and get the opportunity you deserve. Because of BSN I was able to create a long professional career and when needed comeback to prove I could still play at a high level.
